How can we get students to take charge of their own learning? For learners to become independent, they have to do things outside the classroom.

But what? It is up to us teachers to show them some very easy, very simple ways to practice, which only take a few minutes.

In this presentation, we are going to look at five such strategies. All five are extremely easy. None takes more than 10 minutes.

But how can we get learners to continue using these strategies?

Research during the past decades has uncovered little tricks that can help turn something we only do occasionally into a regular, automatic routine. Slowly, imperceptibly habits change us by giving us a new identity. Habit formation can turn what learners often see as a drag to something as automatic as brushing your teeth!
